Our global R&D team partners with leading global research universities and a network of global labs to bring scientific and technical leadership to our biochar.
MORE ABOUT OUR APPROACH
“We believe tropical crop waste is the most scalable and underused resource for removing carbon and restoring climate balance”
Inés Serra Baucells, CEO BIOSORRA
We work in the Global South where farming underpins tropical economies, but also generates billions of tons of agricultural residue that needs managing. By transforming this material into enhanced ICROA-accredited biochar, we turn a challenge into value; for our partners and for the climate.
We deploy our proprietary biochar technology through Agricarbon Hubs across the Global South. Valorizing crop residue and turning it into lasting carbon removal and benefits for local communities.
BENEFITS OF OUR APPROACH
High carbon capture rate
Our science-led biochar leverages the unique potential of tropical crop waste to deliver a superior biochar-to-carbon removal ratio.
MORE ABOUT OUR PREMIUM BIOCHAR
On the ground removing CO₂
Our in-house engineering and operational talent brings real hands-on experience; already removing thousands of tons of CO₂e.
MORE ABOUT OUR TEAM
Modular to scale
Our technology is being rolled out through AgriCarbon hubs, providing a scalable plug-and-play model tailored for the tropics.
Biochar is a stable, carbon-rich material made by heating agricultural biomass in low-oxygen conditions (pyrolysis). When applied to soils, it locks away carbon for the long term and improves soil health: especially relevant for tropical farming systems where degraded soils are a real problem and biomass residues are abundant.
Why are you working with tropical crops?
The tropical belt is a core strength for BIOSORRA: commodity crops (e.g., cocoa, coffee) generate large volumes of underused residues that can be converted into high-quality biochar. Working in this zone unlocks both climate impact and meaningful agronomic co-benefits while supporting expansion across Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.
Which tropical crops do you work with?
We focus on tropical commodity supply chains where biomass is plentiful and logistics are practical that are well-suited to turning waste into durable carbon removal and soil benefits.
What is different about your biochar technology?
BIOSORRA is science-led and tech-forward proprietary process technology supported by best-in-class engineers and tier 1 pyrolysis advisors abd academia. We deploy through modular, plug-and-play Agricarbon Hubs designed for on-the-ground reliability and scale – we operate deeptech engineering to ensure durable removal and not artisanal one-offs.
Our biochar delivers high-quality, science-backed durable carbon removal with MRV and measurable agronomic impact value for
